Saudi Arabia Launches Initiative to Enhance Agroforestry

RIYADH: The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification has launched the Agroforestry Action Plan Development Project to promote environmental sustainability, social development, and economic growth.

According to the report, the initiative evaluates agroforestry conditions, applies global best practices, and encourages investment in sustainable forest management.

Aligned with Vision 2030, the project aims to combat desertification and enhance environmental sustainability. It also activates a December 2024 memorandum with the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry to advance research and implement agroforestry techniques.

Key goals include restoring land, expanding vegetation, protecting habitats, and reducing carbon emissions while fostering resilient forest ecosystems.

Additionally, the center is working to plant 60 million trees and rehabilitate 300,000 hectares of land by 2030, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to sustainable forest development.
